COVID-19\u51fa\u73fe\u8fd1\u4e09\u5e74\uff0c\u5f71\u97ff\u4e16\u754c\u5404\u65b9\u9762\u7684\u904b\u4f5c\uff0c\u6559\u80b2\u754c\u4e5f\u56e0\u9019\u5834\u75ab\u60c5\u6709\u4e86\u5927\u8f49\u8b8a\uff0c\u9664\u4e862021\u5e74\u7dda\u4e0a\u6559\u5b78\u5927\u6d41\u884c\uff0c\u4eca\u5e74\u53f0\u7063\u61c9\u5c0d\u75ab\u60c5\uff0c\u914d\u5408\u9632\u75ab\u65b0\u72c0\u6cc1\uff0c\u5b78\u6821\u8207\u5bb6\u9577\u9762\u81e8\u4e86\u5b69\u5b50\u6709\u6642\u5728\u5bb6\uff0c\u6709\u6642\u53c8\u5230\u6821\u4e0a\u5b78\uff0c\u4e0d\u505c\u5730\u914d\u5408\u9694\u96e2\u89e3\u9694\u7b49..\u4e0d\u78ba\u5b9a\u7684\u904b\u4f5c\u65b9\u5f0f\u3002\u6559\u80b2\u73fe\u5834\u7684\u8001\u5e2b\uff0c\u6559\u5b78\u4e5f\u8abf\u6574\u6210\u6709\u4e9b\u5b78\u751f\u9762\u5c0d\u9762\u6559\u5b78\uff0c\u800c\u90e8\u5206\u53c8\u5728\u5bb6\u7dda\u4e0a\u9023\u7dda\u7684\u6df7\u5408\u5b78\u7fd2\u6a21\u5f0f\uff0c\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u6df7\u6210\u5b78\u7fd2\u6a21\u5f0f\u6bd4100%\u7dda\u4e0a\u6559\u5b78\u5177\u6709\u66f4\u5927\u7684\u6311\u6230\u6027\u3002

\u6df7\u6210\u5b78\u7fd2 (Blended Learning) \u6216\u7a31\u6df7\u5408\u5b78\u7fd2 (Hybrid Learning)\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ea\u662f2022\u5e74\u6559\u5b78\u65b0\u6d6a\u6f6e\uff0c\u66f4\u6210\u70ba\u6559\u80b2\u754c\u71b1\u9580\u641c\u5c0b\u95dc\u9375\u5b57\u3002\u6839\u64da\u806f\u5408\u570b\u6559\u79d1\u6587\u7d44\u7e54 (UNESCO) \u8aaa\u660e\uff0c\u6df7\u6210\u5b78\u7fd2\u5c31\u662f\u540c\u6642\u7d50\u5408\u9060\u8ddd\u3001\u7dda\u4e0a\u8207\u5be6\u9ad4\u5b78\u7fd2\uff0c\u4ee5\u63d0\u5347\u5b78\u751f\u9ad4\u9a57\u4e26\u78ba\u4fdd\u5b78\u7fd2\u9023\u8cab\u7684\u6559\u5b78\u65b9\u5f0f\u3002\u590f\u6069\u82f1\u8a9e\u6559\u52d9\u90e8\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u6df7\u6210\u5b78\u7fd2\u7684\u6559\u5b78\u6280\u5de7\u7d66\u6211\u5011\u7684\u5916\u5e2b\u53c3\u8003\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Teaching Hybrid Classes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As Taiwan starts to open up to the rest of the world, it has brought new challenges for school managers, teachers, parents and students. Due to current restrictions, more and more students are isolating at home. Some classes still have a 100% atten\u0002dance of in-class students, some lessons are a mixture of in-class and some students at home (hybrid classes), and the rest are all online.

I can imagine that it must be hard for some students to isolate away from their friends for an extended period of time. Hybridclasses provides students who are required to isolate to feel a level of normality and communicate with their friends.

Hybrid classes are a great opportunity for teachers to experiment with new ideas and methodologies to develop teaching skills and for school managers to provide a quality service for students and parents. This article will identify some of the key challenges teachers and school managers will face while managing hybrid classes and offer solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenges and Solutions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Activities<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The number of activities that both in-class and students at home can do is limited. There might be some activities that the students in the lesson enjoy; however, the students at home don\u2019t have the materials. If the teacher thinks the quality of the lesson is suffering, then the teacher can focus on the students in the classroom. However, the teacher should still make sure the students at home are practising the language. Reward the students at home for participating in the activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Teams<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As some of the activities can only be done by students in the classroom, it can be challenging to work out whether the students at home should be in one team or put into the same teams as the students in class. If the teach\u0002er would like to focus on playing activities that only students in the class can participate in, then it’s best to put the students online into the teams in the lesson. However, if the teacher includes the students at home in all of the activities, then the students at home can be their own team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Bookwork<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bookwork can\u2019t be marked in the lesson because the student\u2019s books are at home. Therefore, the student’s books need to be corrected by the teacher when the students arrive back to school, which can take a long time to mark if lots of students are in the same position. One solution could be for the students to take pictures of the bookwork and send them to the school manager after each class. Then, the school can correct the images and send them back to the students to edit. The teacher should get the students to hold their books to the camera to check; however, some student’s cameras don’t work, so it’s not possible for the teacher to check it during the lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Tests<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tests should be carried out as fairly as possible for all students. If students at home complete tests, there\u2019s a chance that they could look at their books. The fairest way would be to get the students to complete the tests in class when they return to school. They can stay online for the beginning of the lesson for the review section, and then they can exit the lesson and make up the time when they return to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Classroom Management<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It can be hard to make sure that all of the students at home are following the rules as closely as the students in the classroom. There are instances where students leave their camera turned off or don’t turn on their micro\u0002phone, so it\u2019s hard to check they\u2019re focusing, especially if they\u2019re taking a while to respond to the teacher\u2019s questions. To help this situation, teachers can include these new rules in their lessons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.Turn on your cameras.<\/td><\/tr>
2.Turn on your microphones. Or, turn on your microphone when the teacher calls your name.<\/td><\/tr>
3.Sit in front of the camera.<\/td><\/tr>
4.Watch the lesson.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Try to encourage parents to purchase new cameras or microphones if they\u2019re broken as everyone will benefit from increased participation in the lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Timing<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The biggest issue with timing can be the amount of time it takes for some students at home to respond to instruc\u0002tions. Students should keep their microphones on as much as possible. Teachers should also explain the rules to the activities close to their microphones, so instructions don’t need to be explained twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Target Language<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The target language on the board might not be clear enough for the students to see at home. For example, the computer\u2019s webcam is too far away from the board, the computer is at a strange angle, or the board appears the wrong way around. It\u2019s recommended that the computer is rested on a table, facing directly at the board and close enough to the board. Teachers can download this <\/mark><\/a>Google Chrome extension to make sure they see everything in the class\u0002room at the correct angle. Teachers should use flashcards each lesson and hold them in front of the camera every time they present a new piece of target language, or the students drill the target language. Last, it\u2019s important to remind teachers to draw pictures to give the sentences more context instead of just writing sentences on
the board.

It\u2019s a new situation for almost everyone involved, so some things might go better than others. Self-reflection is important for growth as a teacher. Don’t be afraid to experiment with something new. As long as you learn from it, then everyone will be better off for it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
