One of the challenges when learning words in English is that there are two types of words; those that can be spelt exactly as they sound (phonetically) and those that cannot. Approximately 70% of English words can be spelt phonetically (the sounds of the letters are added together to make the word):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g.  b     ir    d    = bird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5b78\u82f1\u6587\u6642\uff0c\u5176\u4e2d\u4e00\u9805\u6311\u6230\u5c31\u662f\u55ae\u5b57\u3002\u82f1\u6587\u55ae\u5b57\u5206\u70ba\u5169\u7a2e\uff1a\u5b57\u6bcd\u62fc\u97f3\u53ca\u975e\u5b57\u6bcd\u62fc\u97f3\u3002\u6709\u767e\u5206\u4e4b70\u7684\u82f1\u6587\u5b57\u662f\u7531\u5b57\u6bcd\u4f86\u62fc\u97f3\u7684\uff0c\u53ef\u85c9\u7531\u4e00\u500b\u500b\u5b57\u6bcd\u5c07\u55ae\u5b57\u7684\u8b80\u97f3\u62fc\u51fa\u4f86\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that means that around 30% of words, some of which are very commonly used, have to be memorized as they can\u2019t be spelt correctly by sounding out the letters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g.  know       doesn\u2019t sound like the individual or grouped letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u4f46\u662f\u6709\u767e\u5206\u4e4b\u4e09\u5341\u7684\u5b57\uff0c\u6709\u4e9b\u662f\u5e38\u7528\u5b57\uff0c\u5fc5\u9808\u85c9\u7531\u8a18\u61b6\u4f86\u5b78\u7fd2\u56e0\u70ba\u5b83\u5011\u4e0d\u80fd\u7531\u5b57\u6bcd\u62fc\u51fa\u8b80\u97f3\u3002\u5982\uff1aknow\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How can we help our children? \u5982\u4f55\u5e6b\u52a9\u5b78\u751f\u5b78\u55ae\u5b57?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Tip 1:<\/strong> Pick out the words that are spelt phonetically<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u7955\u8a23\u4e00\uff1a\u5f9e \u201d\u53ef\u7528\u81ea\u7136\u62fc\u97f3\u539f\u5247\u201d \u7684\u5b57\u958b\u59cb<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sound out the letters of the word, as the children are learning phonics already they can usually work out the first sound and the last sound:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g.    r—e—d        Most young children can get \u2018r\u2019 and maybe \u2018d\u2019 but struggle with the vowel sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5c07\u55ae\u5b57\u4e2d\u5b57\u6bcd\u4e00\u4e00\u767c\u97f3\u3002\u4e00\u822c\u5b78\u751f\u90fd\u80fd\u7528\u5df2\u5b78\u904e\u4e4b\u5b57\u6bcd\u97f3\u7684\u539f\u5247\u5ff5\u51fa\u4f86\uff1a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5982\uff1ar—e—d\uff0c\u5927\u90e8\u5206\u5b78\u751f\u53ef\u91cd\u982d\u5230\u5c3e\u767c\u51fa \u2018r\u2019 \u548c \u2018d\u2019 \u7684\u97f3\uff0c\u6709\u4e9b\u5b78\u751f\u53ef\u80fd\u6703\u6bd4\u8f03\u96e3\u767c\u51fa\u6bcd\u97f3\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This is true of native speakers too; they also mix up vowel sounds at young ages. Let your children practice these words first, if they get the first and last sound they only have to memorize the middle bit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5c0d\u4e00\u4e9b\u6bcd\u8a9e\u4eba\u58eb\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u5728\u5e74\u5e7c\u6642\u4e5f\u6703\u641e\u6df7\u3002\u6240\u4ee5\u5b78\u751f\u61c9\u591a\u52a0\u7df4\u7fd2\u9019\u4e00\u985e\u578b\u7684\u5b57\u3002\u5982\u679c\u80fd\u638c\u63e1\u7b2c\u4e00\u548c\u6700\u5f8c\u7684\u5b50\u97f3\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u5c31\u53ea\u8981\u5c08\u653b\u4e2d\u9593\u7684\u6bcd\u97f3\u5373\u53ef\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tip 2:<\/strong> Let your children try spelling the words before they actively start to memorize them.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u79d8\u8a23\u4e8c\uff1a\u8b93\u5b78\u751f\u5728\u8a18\u61b6\u55ae\u5b57\u524d\uff0c\u5148\u5c07\u55ae\u5b57\u7528\u62fc\u97f3\u5538\u51fa\u4f86<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This gives you a good idea of how well your child is doing with their phonics. There is no wrong answer at this stage, so be supportive and let them know that getting even a few letters right is a big step to memorizing the ones they didn\u2019t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u9019\u4e00\u9ede\u63d0\u4f9b\u5bb6\u9577\u638c\u63e1\u81ea\u5df1\u5b69\u5b50\u76ee\u524d\u5b78\u7fd2\u62fc\u97f3\u7684\u60c5\u6cc1\u3002\u5728\u9019\u4e00\u968e\u6bb5\u4e0d\u8981\u7528\u6240\u8b02\u7684\u5c0d\u932f\u7b54\u6848\u53bb\u8981\u6c42\u5b69\u5b50\uff0c\u9700\u591a\u9f13\u52f5\u4e26\u8b93\u4ed6\u5011\u77e5\u9053\u53ea\u8981\u80fd\u62fc\u51fa\u4e00\u4e9b\u7684\u5b57\u6bcd\uff0c\u5c0d\u8a18\u61b6\u55ae\u5b57\u7684\u90e8\u5206\u5c31\u5df2\u7d93\u662f\u5f80\u524d\u4e00\u5927\u6b65\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

When looking at the words that they didn\u2019t get<\/strong> correct<\/strong>, try to sound out the parts that they struggled with and see if they can correct them. If they can work out the problem themselves, they have a better chance of remembering than if they are told by you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t know how to read the word yourself, you can listen to<\/strong> the word list on the <\/strong>Shane Kids<\/em> website<\/strong> (www.shane-kids.com<\/a>) or on the CD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u7576\u4ed6\u5011\u5c07\u5b57\u6bcd\u97f3\u767c\u932f\u6642\uff0c\u8acb\u5354\u52a9\u4e26\u5f15\u5c0e\u4ed6\u5011\uff0c\u8b93\u4ed6\u5011\u8a66\u8457\u81ea\u5df1\u5148\u6539\u6b63\u3002\u5982\u679c\u4ed6\u5011\u53ef\u4ee5\u81ea\u5df1\u4fee\u6b63\u904e\u4f86\uff0c\u8868\u793a\u4ed6\u5011\u6703\u6709\u8f03\u597d\u7684\u8a18\u61b6\u55ae\u5b57\u7684\u6a5f\u6703\u3002\u6bd4\u6211\u5011\u76f4\u63a5\u544a\u8a34\u5b69\u5b50\u7b54\u6848\u9084\u6709\u6548\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5982\u679c\u60a8\u672c\u8eab\u4e0d\u77e5\u5982\u4f55\u8b80\u9019\u5b57\uff0c\u8acb\u60a8\u5148\u807d\u590f\u6069\u5b98\u7db2Shane Kids\u6216CD\u4e0a\u7684\u55ae\u5b57\u8868\u7684\u767c\u97f3\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tip 3: Look for patterns in the words.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u79d8\u8a23\u4e09\uff1a\u5728\u55ae\u5b57\u4e2d\u627e\u51fa\u898f\u5247<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

There are many words that repeat the same cluster of letters to generate a specific sound. Some words they know well sound like new words they are learning in their class now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g. \u2018clock\u2019 sounds like \u2018rock\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6709\u8a31\u591a\u5b57\u91cd\u8907\u8457\u4e00\u9023\u4e32\u76f8\u540c\u767c\u97f3\u7684\u5b57\u6bcd\uff0c\u5f62\u6210\u4e00\u4e9b\u7279\u5b9a\u97f3\u3002\u5b78\u751f\u5728\u807d\u5230\u4e00\u4e9b\u65b0\u5b57\u6642\uff0c\u6703\u81ea\u89ba\u5230\u8207\u4e00\u4e9b\u5df2\u5b78\u904e\u7684\u55ae\u5b57\u767c\u97f3\u985e\u4f3c\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5982\uff1a\u2018clock\u2019\u8207\u2018rock\u2019\uff0c\u90fd\u91cd\u8907\u8457 \u201cock\u201d, \u807d\u8d77\u4f86\u76f8\u4f3c\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In this example the pattern is \u2018ock\u2019, therefore, your child can just change their pronunciation of the start of the word based on their knowledge of phonics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u9047\u5230\u9019\u4e00\u985e\u7684\u5b57\uff0c\u60a8\u7684\u5b69\u5b50\u53ea\u8981\u6539\u8b8a\u524d\u9762\u958b\u982d\u7684\u5b50\u97f3\uff0c\u5c31\u53ef\u4ee5\u9806\u5229\u8b80\u51fa\u9019\u4e00\u985e\u7684\u5b57\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tip 4: Find the phonic parts of words and only memorize the non-phonic part.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u79d8\u8a23\u56db\uff1a\u627e\u51fa\u5b57\u6bcd\u4e2d\u53ef\u62fc\u97f3\u7684\u90e8\u5206\u4e26\u53ea\u8981\u8a18\u61b6\u7121\u6cd5\u4f7f\u7528\u62fc\u97f3\u539f\u5247\u7684\u90e8\u5206\u5373\u53ef<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The more of the word that can be deduced by the phonic sounds, the less your child needs to memorize, which will also raise their chances of success:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g   the number \u20184\u2019 sounds like \u2018f\u2019 and \u2018or\u2019, now they only need to memorise the \u2018u\u2019 in the middle of \u2018or\u2019 and they can spell \u2018four\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

e.g   kitchen \u2013 \u2018k – i – t\u2019 and \u2018ch\u2019 can be sounded out phonetically, now all they need to memorize is \u2018en\u2019 at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u70ba\u5354\u52a9\u60a8\u5b69\u5b50\u80cc\u597d\u55ae\u5b57\uff0c\u8d8a\u80fd\u627e\u51fa\u5728\u55ae\u5b57\u4e2d\u62fc\u97f3\u539f\u5247\u767c\u97f3\u7684\u90e8\u5206\uff0c\u5b69\u5b50\u5c31\u80fd\u5c11\u8a18\u4e00\u4e9b\u7121\u6cd5\u7528\u62fc\u97f3\u539f\u5247\u767c\u97f3\u7684\u90e8\u5206\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5982\uff1a4\u9019\u500b\u5b57\uff0c\u807d\u8d77\u4f86\u50cf\u2018f\u2019 \u548c \u2018or\u2019\uff0c\u5b69\u5b50\u5c31\u53ea\u8981\u8a18\u4e2d\u9593\u7684\u2018u\u2019\u5373\u53ef\uff0c\u9019\u6a23\u5c31\u80fd\u80cc\u51fa\u2018four\u2019\u9019\u500b\u5b57\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u53c8\u5982\uff1akitchen\u9019\u500b\u5b57\uff0c\u7576\u4e2d\u7684k – i – t\u2019 \u53ca\u2018ch\u2019\uff0c\u90fd\u80fd\u7528\u81ea\u7136\u62fc\u97f3\u7684\u539f\u5247\u767c\u51fa\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u60a8\u5b69\u5b50\u53ea\u8981\u8a18 \u7d50\u5c3e\u7684 \u2018en\u2019\u5373\u53ef\u3002<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

These <\/strong>are four tips for achieving better spelling and writing test results. The more they can apply phonics and the less they need to memorize, the better. There is, however, one more very important tip! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encourage your child to do lots of reading! <\/strong>They will see all the words they need to spell while also enjoying<\/strong> a story <\/strong>which will, in turn, help them get better scores in school and become a real spelling<\/strong> master!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u4ee5\u4e0a4\u500b\u7955\u8a23\u5e6b\u52a9\u60a8\u5b69\u5b50\u9054\u5230\u66f4\u597d\u7684\u62fc\u5beb\u55ae\u5b57\u6280\u5de7\u3002\u5b78\u751f\u8d8a\u80fd\u61c9\u7528\u81ea\u7136\u62fc\u97f3\u7684\u539f\u5247\uff0c\u5c31\u8d8a\u80fd\u6e1b\u5c11\u4ed6\u5011\u8a18\u61b6\u55ae\u5b57\u7684\u96e3\u5ea6\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
