Have you ever wondered how you would live if you only had one leg? When she was 16, Lin Muqing, who had dreamed of becoming a comedian ever since she was a child, was accidentally knocked to the ground by a classmate while playing basketball.
It was then discovered that she had bone cancer in her left leg, which meant that it had to be amputated. After losing her leg, Muqing was devastated and lost hope for a long time until she was finally able to use a prosthetic leg and walk herself to school. She said, “When I was 16, I experienced the biggest setback of my life; however, it was also the beginning of the happiest journey of my life.”
Finding positivity from the obstacles in life
Muqing struggled with depression during college and for a few years afterwards. It was at this time that Muqing, who had always been lively and outgoing, remembered her childhood dreams. So, she started studying courses related to radio and television. Later on, she signed up for a competition, which she then won. Winning this allowed her to stand in front of a camera and live out her childhood dream.
Self-transcendence and breaking through limitations
Even though she only has one leg, Muqing always pushes herself to do things that others would deem impossible for her. She has taken part in difficult sports like rock climbing, river tracing, snorkelling, diving and even parasailing.
“These are extreme sports that most haven’t ever tried before,” Lin Muqing said. “But I’ve done them!”
To take part in the “Dream Heart Stage” performance presented by Da Ai Taiwan, Muqing first had to practice her dancing in a safe space. It’s very difficult for a person to find their centre of balance and keep it stable. Having only one leg, this was even more difficult for Muqing. Because of this, the most important thing for Muqing to master was her balance. Despite her body being different to others, Muqing has always believed in working hard so that her life can outshine others’.
Muqing moved and stretched her body as gracefully as possible as the beautiful melody began. Using only one leg, she jumped, twisted and spun constantly to convey the message behind the music. This wouldn’t be a simple act, even for a healthy and able-bodied person, and Muqing did a beautiful job.
Because Muqing uses crutches, she has never been able to run freely with her daughters. Muqing has been using mother-daughter dances to build her relationship with her daughters and make up for lost experiences.
Through the dances, Muqing and her daughters have had to work together on common goals, which has strengthened their relationship. To Muqing, the most touching part is that through this, her daughters have been able to understand the difficulties and troubles that their mother faced.
Dare to challenge and meet a better self
In life, there will be setbacks and frustrations. If you choose to face them head-on, you’ll create a more fulfilling life. Relying on only one leg, Muqing stepped onto the stage in graceful dance and travelled to fifteen countries. Lin Muqing used her own story to prove that as long as she has the willpower, she can overcome all difficulties.
