Sun Cheng-ta, president of SUNGREAT GENERAL SUPPLY company, who mainly runs business of automobile components in more than 50 countries, moved to Korea with his parents when he was an infant. Sadly, his parents were killed; Sun was brought up by adoptive parents but hadn’t been well treated ever since. At the age of three he suffered from polio because of a high fever; therefore, he was destined to walk lifelong with a cane.
He was born lacking of family love, coupled with the disability caused by polio, which not only deprived him of education and employment as a normal person, but he also lost all the good things in life.
He felt strong indifference and despise when people saw him for the first time. He was mocked and had to disguise himself in his childhood.
The thought of taking his own life had been continuously on his mind, but he knew he had to prove his ability to earn a living and would never be looked down upon. Being different and irreplaceable has made him today be able to set up a business of 1.5 billions and became a successful and respectable businessman in Mid-East.
Hard work leads to higher learning and higher vision.
As soon as he set his goal, Mr. Sun turned all the sorrows he had endured into a driving force for life. He started to read plenty of famous history stories, such as “The Spring and Autumn Annals” and “The Art of War”, through which he wanted to understand the intelligent ways of how the ancients do with difficulties. Learning Zhuge Liang’s wisdom from “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, and understands human nature.
He wanted to earn a fortune and do great things, therefore he decided to start a business. While studying agriculture at university, he worked part-time during the day and studied law at night. He understood that learning foreign languages were also essential for international business; so he’s got quite fluent English while still a university student.
Although he majored in agriculture, he chose to be a motor components dealer as his first job after graduation. He then borrowed NT$300,000 from his current wife and friends and set up his own company called Chengyang International.
Bravery mind, successful career in the Mid-East
He discovered profitable business opportunities of motor components in Mid-East markets, so he began his career there, even if it’s a warring area. Moreover, he studied Arabic very hard, trying to fast integrate into a new culture.
He learnt very well about the good and evil side of human nature. He knows how to respect Arab culture, his fluency in foreign languages, being trustworthy and sincere, has not only enabled him to sign large quantities of orders, but also won friendships with many Mid-Eastern customers. Some of his friends called him the “Prince of the Middle East” from Taiwan.
Having been running business over 30 years in the Mid-East market, Mr. Sun have experienced numerous wars, and even nearly been robbed. He has no fear of danger and difficulties, which made him successful today.
Determination and love
With success in his career, and appreciate what education has offered, Mr. Sun set up a foundation to help with children who are more impoverished.
There are always shortcomings in life, and any hardship and frustration in it has its meaning, in order to build a better self, to become a better person. Mr. Sun was overwhelmingly down by his unsatisfactory life, but eventually decided to take a different approach and move on to a broader future.
